28 April, 2013 The Osteopathic Centre for Children, London, SW18

The group of 14 postgraduate students are in their 2nd year at the Osteopathic Centre for Children.

My aim at this presentation was to:

1. To introduce the concept of a dental appliance to treat patients with movement disorders.

2. To demonstrate the early signs of facial skeletal imbalance. This is the underlying cause of the majority of malocclusions and may be implicated in other conditions as varied as headaches and movement disorders.

3. To encourage the study of cranial osteopathy.

There is growing evidence that combining cranial osteopathy with functional orthodontics results in a superior outcome for our patients.

I discussed the latest work of Dr Brendan Stack, TMJ specialist in Virginia, USA.  In October 2012 he gave a presentation to the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine in which he showed 20 cases suffering from Tourette’s, Parkinson’s, Torti Collis and Dystonia, all treated successfully with a dental appliance combined with cranial osteopathy. These cases can be seen on his YouTube channel.  A grant of $150,000  has just been approved by the Tourette Syndrome Association for his pilot study.
