At this Symposium I met up with colleagues from America, Canada, Japan and the UK , all places where I have lectured in the past for this group. The programme included a host of specialist subjects from Research Projects, Change within the Dental Profession, Myotherapy Appliances and Case presentations. The one that stood out for me was Gill Rapley’s presentation – ” Baby Led Weaning “. Gill is a Health Visitor and the author of the book by the same name. See. www.rapleyweaning.com.
Dr Mike Mew explained in detail the importance of correct tongue posture in driving the maxilla forward during facial development. Most malocclusions were associated with retrognathic maxillas and this resulted in deficient nasal and pharyngeal airways and forward head posture as well as crooked teeth.
Dr Derek Mahoney introduced the MFS (Multifunction System) designed by Professor Jose Von Arx in Barcelona. These are well tolerated and can bring about significant changes in the oral muscles. All exciting new develeopments.
The Case Presentations all showed greatly improved facial aesthetics.
