15 November 2011. The presentation entitled ” The Temporo-Mandibular Joint/Osteopathy Connection” was given to Manus Sinistra, the study group of the British School of Osteopathy, in London.

This lecture gave me the opportunity to demonstrate the important link between the TMJ and movement disorders such as Tourrette’s syndrome, Torticollis and Parkinsons. Dr Brendan Stack’s video, “Connecting” was shown. This demonstrates the improvement that can be achieved for these patients by fitting an intra-oral splint.

This is ground-breaking treatment. Medical, dental and complementary professionals working together could achieve some amazing results.

Recognition of potential TMJ dysfunction is the key to prevention and  this is where early Functional Orthodontics has such an important role to play.
